Giant Food Art Made From Discarded Mattresses

May 31, 2016 by Chris Durso

Reinterpreting the term “street food,” French artist Lor-K repurposes discarded mattresses into giant food art.

What starts off as a curbside eyesore, Lor-K spray-paints and forms into pieces that almost look good enough to eat. But, please so not eat… that food has been on the floor.

Sausage, A Cute Animated Short Film About Dueling Street Food Vendors

November 6, 2014 by Chris Durso

sausage

Sausage is a short animated film by Robert Grieves. It begins adorably with two street-food vendors — one selling hand-reared sausage, the other with freshly-baked artisan breads.

It isn’t until a new mustache-twirling food vendor moves in and starts stealing their customers, that the two have to get creative in order to survive. Then, with a little help from sausage sandwiches and innuendo, the plans of the bad guy are thwarted. Sausage sandwiches solve everything.

The World’s Most Expensive Kebab

June 7, 2011 by Chris Durso

To promote the launch of The Great Food Truck Race, Food Network has commissioned the World’s Most Expensive Kebab.

Created by chef Andy Bates, the ‘King of Kebabs’ includes champagne-infused mint and cucumber yogurt, barrel-aged ewe’s milk feta cheese, and coeur de boeuf. And of course, no over-the-top foodstuff would be complete without the superfluous edible gold leaf.

The asking price for this new street-food-gone-fancy is $1,225. In other news, the US is still broke.

History of the Hot Dog

April 5, 2011 by Chris Durso

The hot dog — an already questionable food item, made even more appealing with its history told by a talking rat. From the dog’s humble beginnings on the streets of New York City and Coney Island, to cementing its legacy as the pioneer of street food.
