The Most Expensive Hamburger In The World Is Gold-Covered, A Bit Gaudy

June 6, 2017 by Chris Durso 2 Comments

The ‘world’s most expensive burger’ once looked like this… then this. Now, it’s a gold-covered monstrosity and, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, is officially the most ostentatious pile of meat in all the land.

Brought to us by Netherlands-based, chef Diego Buik — the burger contains Japanese dry-aged Wagyu beef, Oosterschelde lobster, Foie gras, white truffle, Remeker cheese, Japanese fruit tomatoes and caviar, in-between a saffron brioche bun covered in gold leaf.

The cost? $2,300. Fries are available, but they’re not gold, so we don’t see the point.

Here’s a $25,000 Taco

Happy Taco Tuesday, everyone. Oh, did I say, everyone? What I meant to say, was ‘the top 1%.’ While the rest of us stand in line at a taco truck and shell out upwards of two-bucks for a taco, rich folk can now enjoy the World’s Most Expensive Taco.

Created by Executive Chef Juan Licerio Alcala at Grand Velas Los Cabos Hotel in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico — the taco is priced at $25,000. Included in the pricey taco is langoustine, kobe beef, black truffle brie cheese, and Beluga caviar. It’s stuffed in a corn and 24-karat gold-infused shell, and topped with morita chile salsa and civet coffee.

Or, you can take that 25K and buy out the local taco truck. A Happy Taco Tuesday indeed.

The World’s Most Expensive Jell-O Robot

August 3, 2012 by Chris Durso 1 Comment

To help promote the Sony Xperia mobile phone, and inspired by director Wes Anderson’s Made of Imagination ads, jelly robots were hidden around the UK. But these are no ordinary jiggly bots. They were created by Bompas & Parr, and stuffed with bling.

Besides being made of super-expensive jelly, the ‘Xperiabots’ contained luxuries such as golden cogs, white truffle valves, and gemstones for eyes. Once the jelly set, the robots were worth around £6000, and whoever found them, got to keep them.

The World’s Most Expensive Cupcake

July 10, 2012 by Chris Durso 2 Comments

Here we go again, with a new “the world’s most expensive something” to get the blood boiling. This time we present The Golden Phoenix, which is being called, “The World’s Most Expensive Edible Cupcake.” Created by Shafeena Yusuff Ali, CEO of couture bakery Bloomsbury’s in The Dubai Mall — the mixture of milk, eggs, sugar, and gold dust will set you back $27,000. We assume the plate is included.

Now, I could bore you with a list of ingredients. But, when the end result is the gaudy over-the-top mess that you see above, does it really matter? However, for the one-percenters in our audience [I assume there are many], please give Bloomsbury’s 48-hours notice to prepare your cupcake, and please eat it within 15 minutes, or the chocolate will melt. Enjoy.

The World’s Most Expensive Pizza

June 19, 2012 by Chris Durso Leave a Comment

Still recovering from the war that was The World’s Most Expensive Burger — we have a new extravagant food entry. Recently named The World’s Most Expensive Pizza, the round doughy concoction by Vancouver-based Steveston Pizza Company costs $450.

The C6, as it’s called, is topped with a thermidor of lobster and black Alaskan cod, and a dollop of Russian Osetra caviar — gotta have the caviar. And, if you’re on a budget, but still like your pizza douchey, Steveston has the more reasonable C5 Pizza for $120. Then there’s always their regular lineup of $14-$20 pizzas for the heathens.
