The Foodnited States Of America, A Pun-Fueled Series of US States Made From Food

FOODNITED-STATES-HEADER

Foodnited States T-shirts are now available here. The Foodnited States of America Poster, including all 50 States, is now available here.

In addition to being the creator of Foodiggity.com, I’m also the father of an eight-year-old. And, when most of the material covered on your site could best be described as ‘juvenile food-related nonsense,’ a curious youngster is gonna wanna get involved.

It began innocently enough with, “Dad… What if you made States, but like, they were made of food, like?” My response was something along the lines of, “That’s been done to death already, son… Go to bed.” Then, the heir to the Foodiggity empire added, “But what if they like had funny names like New Pork or New Jerky, like?” Now, we were on to something.

So, with an idea set forth by an eight year-old, and contributions from Dad and others, we give you The Foodnited States of America.

The project is based over at Instagram, hashtag #foodnitedstates. All fifty States are now complete, check them out over at Instagram or at Foodiggity’s Facebook page here. F-S-A!! F-S-A!!

  1. Months ago when I first saw this, I thought the most obvious one for Oklahoma was Okrahoma (as in fried okra, we eat a ton of it here, lol), but they went with Oklahummus, something which almost no Okie would be caught dead eating! I would have made the suggestion, but I don’t do Facebook and, frankly, I’m sick to death of sites trying to shove it down my throat (as well as Twitter, Instagram and every other narcissistic, self-absorbed genre of media these days). There is a whole world outside of these sites people…break free from the herd mentality, get a personality all your own, maybe even an imagination…you just might find it liberating. 🙂

  2. I want a poster/print of the complete collection when done!! Please add to your shop!

  3. Creative geography lessons… these are great! How about a fairly simple cutout from a stick of Wrigley’s gum for Massachewsetts, Cameron?

  4. Where is Bacon Etiquette?? (Cause everyone knows Connecticut is all bout that etiquette… and bacon)

  5. “Spamaska” or “Spamalaska” Spam is a staple in the Alaska Bush. Good luck – what fun!

  6. Since I’m from Ohio and I love to cook with orzo, I have to suggest…

    Orzohio

But then there’s arborio rice…I like that, too.

    Arboriohio

Risottohio, for a variation on the theme…

Finally, I was going to suggest Oreohio, but Nabisco might have something to say about that…

Love this project! And what a great, fun dad you are!

  7. Wow, Mississippi is not the easiest, but how about “Fried Chickissippi” ? We do eat a lot of the stuff. I love your project! Thanks!
