Real Life Emojis Recreated With Food And Everyday Objects

July 9, 2015 by Chris Durso

Emojis are currently the best way to express yourself, via your mobile keyboard. But what if some of these handy little graphics came to life and existed in the wild?

Artist and master of minimalism, Peechaya Burroughs, took on Instagram’s recent weekend hashtag project of ‘Emoji In The Wild’, recreating these icons using actual food and making them interactive.

More of Burroughs’ work can be found at her Instagram account. It’s highly recommended.

Sandwiches Deconstructed and Organized Neatly On Vintage Lunch Trays by David Schwen

April 7, 2015 by Chris Durso

Artist David Schwen has a way of using minimalism, incorporating everyday objects, and making the end result so awesome that it hurts.

Schwen’s recent “How To” series is a perfect example of this. Created for The Daily Share, the series takes a few well-known sandwiches and lunch items, breaks them down into parts, and presents them segmented on a vintage lunch tray.

The images that Schwen creates become a thorough exercise in minimalism, deconstruction, ephemera and food styling. And, if you didn’t already know what makes up a cheeseburger or Reuben, the photos can be a handy tutorial in sandwich-making.

Artists Help Celebrate 100 Years of Coca-Cola In A Series of Minimalist Ads

March 4, 2015 by Chris Durso

Believe it or not, Coca-Cola has been around for a century. To help celebrate the soft drink’s longevity and icon status, 130 artists created a series of ads — using nothing more than Coca-Cola’s brand colors, and its iconic bottle shape.

Officially-titled Mashup Coke, the series is an exercise in minimalist graphic design, the use of negative space, and iconography. It also goes to show you how powerful branding can be — even if that brand is nothing more than caramel-colored sugar water.

See more below and over at Instagram, #MashUpCoke.

Homer Simpson Wine

July 23, 2014 by Chris Durso

Although, wine might be a little too high-brow for Homer Simpson, designers Constantin Bolimond and Dmitry Patsukevich brings us a Simpsons-inspired wine.

Claiming to have been created 25 years ago “as an experiment to make people speculate as to what’s actually in the wine bottle,” the design is inspired by the minimalist style of Mondrian.

Whether there’s an actual wine in the bottle is up for debate… although we think the bottle copy is a cryptic message that simply refers to the television series itself. All design and no wine makes Homer something, something.

Food Packaging Fueled by Brutal Honesty and Product Arrogance

June 5, 2014 by Chris Durso

Most of the time, our food packaging and their cute cartoon mascots lie to us. Well, at the very least, they’re just not as straightforward as these minimalist labels by London-based design student Beth Fox-Fuller.

Created as a concept for British supermarket chain ASDA — the project focuses on telling the shopper like it is. Even if the products do come off a bit arrogant and overconfident in their attempt to get you to bring them home.
