Peanut butter and jelly with the crusts cut off just got an upgrade. Wanting to add some visual interest to his kids’ lunches, artist David Laferriere doodles on their clear sandwich bags every day.
Created right after he makes the actual sandwich, the art is created quickly and not seen by the kids until lunchtime.
If we know anything about kids, it’s that they enjoy nothing more than having their lunch staring back at them. Especially when the food is crafted to resemble their favorite pop culture character. Luckily, Heather Sitarzewski of LunchboxAwesome has put together a collection of such bentos.
The series began as a way for Heather to provide a fun lunch for her son, while exercising her own creative side. And, while unintentional, it also helped to make the other kids’ lunches appear that much more boring.
