This Artist Reinvents The Starbucks Mermaid On Each Of His Coffee Cups

What is it about the Starbucks coffee cup that inspires art? Is it the minimalist design? The unmistakable and perfectly-executed mermaid logo? Or, is it just the caffeine contained within that gets the creative juices flowing?

Either way, the cups have provided some of the best food art we’ve seen here. And, the work of South Korean artist, Soo Min Kim, is no exception. Using the Starbucks cup as canvas, Kim uses the mermaid as a starting point and rethinks the cup’s environment around her face.

The coffee mascot, by the hand of Kim, then becomes The Beatles, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man — or made to look as though she’s simply living amongst us humans. See more below and over at Instagram.

These Mathematical Cakes Equal Awesome

Artist, Dinara Kasko, who we’ve covered previously, is back with even more mind-boggling Mathematical Cakes.

Often collaborating with mathematicians and sculptors, Dinara uses mathematical algorithms as inspiration for her designs. The result… confectionaries that belong on a fancy pedestal in a museum. The best part, is that the cake’s insides are just as beautiful.

Superwiener, Instagram @burpzine

What’s better than an occasional wiener? Well, a daily wiener, of course. What’s even better is, if said sausage was used to recreate famous works of art and pop culture characters.

The Daily Wiener is a fun food art series by pastry chef Erik Vernieuwe. The main subject, most often a hot dog, is made to look like superheroes, movie stars, and other well-known works of art. See more below and follow the project here.
