Glassware With The Molecular Structure of The Beverage Printed On It

April 18, 2016 by Chris Durso

If you need to find the perfect gift for a thirsty chemist, look no further than Chemistry Drinkware.

Brought to us by Cognitive Surplus, the glassware is not only a convenient way to hold a drink, but has the molecular structure of the beverage printed on it.

So, those in the know will recognize their coffee ingredients as neochlorogenic acid, isovalerylaldehyde
furan-2-ylmethanethiol and guaiacol — while most of us just thinks it contains “that stuff that makes mornings suck less.” We’re both right.

The science of booze can be a confusing one. The alcohol to mixer ratio must be precise, or it could easily ruin your party.

The Erlenmeyer Vacuum Flask Shaker Set is here to help with your booze experiments. The beautifully-designed shaker and shot glasses are actually made from scientifically-tempered glass, so it’s the real deal. Just try not to blow the place up.

Check it out here.

The Chemistry of Sriracha

February 25, 2014 by Chris Durso

Finally, our addiction to Sriracha is explained… With science. The Chemistry of Sriracha, by The American Chemical Society, not only explains why the hot chili sauce beckons us like an irresistible sea nymph — but also how Sriracha is able to retain its hypnotic red color for so long.

The culprits are actually a combination of endorphin-releasing capsaicinoids and color-retaining preservatives. Just the very mention of Sriracha leads to enormous traffic spikes on food culture sites such as this one. And, you can’t argue with science.

Scientific Cutting Boards For The Culinary Geek

February 20, 2014 by Chris Durso

If you enjoy cooking as much as math and chemistry, then these Scientific Cutting Boards are for you, nerdo.

Brought to us by Elysium Woodworks, the handmade cutting boards come in a variety of woods and forms of geekery. Need to know the abbreviation for phosphorus while you julienne? Would you like to be able to rattle off the first hundred decimal places of Pi while you dice?

There’s surely a board here to appease the chef and mathematician in you. Or perhaps you just have a bit of OCD?

The Chemistry of Cookies

November 20, 2013 by Chris Durso

Put some cookie dough in the oven, set it to 350°F, and in 10-12 minutes, people will be losing their minds.

But as low-brow as stuffing your face with as many freshly-baked cookies may seem — there’s actually a lot of science involved in the process, as well as why cookies are nearly impossible to resist. Darn you, science!

Please watch this…
