The Christmas spirit hasn’t hit full stride yet, so pumpkin spice still rules. But, what exactly is in your Pumpkin Spice Latte or Pumpkin Pie Pringles? SPOILER ALERT: It ain’t pumpkin.

Not only do most food items that claim pumpkin flavoring not contain any actual pumpkin — they probably don’t even contain the actual spices typically used to accompany the bland orange vegetable.

A short yet scathing video by The New York Times breaks the p-spice scandal wide open. Where there should be nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon, there’s now lactones, ketones and cyclotenes — chemicals that toy with our fragile fall-loving minds. Please watch…
