Someone Filled a Giant Street Crack in Philadelphia with Rainbow Sprinkles

February 17, 2017 by Chris Durso Leave a Comment

Rainbow sprinkles… They’re not just for making vanilla ice cream tolerable anymore. Apparently, they make for some fun street repair.

The impromptu crack-filling is the handiwork of artist Dave S. Pettengill. Meant to be more of a temporary art piece than an actual fix, “A Valentine to Philly” hopefully made a few Philadelphians smile.

As long as they didn’t step on it… even sprinkled cracks have been known to break your mother’s back. True story.

Giant Gummy Bear Street Paintings Appear Real When Viewed From Above

It’s probably on everyone’s wish list… To randomly stumble upon giant gummy bears that we can interact with.

Artist Leon Kerr has attempted to make it so, with Gummy Bear Street Art. Created for the Malta Street Art Festival, the gummies are brilliantly painted to scale, so that they’re best viewed from above. Do not try to eat.

Banksy Sculpture of Ronald McDonald Getting His Shoes Shined

October 18, 2013 by Chris Durso Leave a Comment

In case you haven’t been keeping up… Street artist/shit-stirrer Banksy has unleashed a month-long assault on New York City. One of his latest installments is a large fiberglass sculpture of Ronald McDonald getting his shoes shined — literally.

The Ronald McDonald is meant to be “a critique of the heavy labor required to sustain the polished image of a mega-corporation.”

It made its debut in the Bronx on Wednesday, and will appear randomly in front of various McDonald’s locations throughout the city over the next week.

Sugar Murals and Cake Icing Graffiti

November 5, 2012 by Chris Durso Leave a Comment

Remember, kids… Graffiti is wrong. That is of course, unless the wall art is created with delicious cake icing. Over the last few years, Montreal-based street artist Shelley Miller has enhanced a few urban settings by decorating the walls as if it was cake.

Often inspired by the textures, patterns, or existing graffiti of the wall — Shelley creates very temporary art that will last until it no longer adheres to its stone canvas. Or, until the locals lick it clean.

Instant Cookie Monster, Just Add Googly Eyes

November 30, 2011 by Chris Durso Leave a Comment

Part of his series of turning everyday objects anthropomorphic, German artist Timm Schneider created an urban Cookie Monster. Using nothing more than black marker and styrofoam balls, Schneider adds googly eyes to random objects, with brilliantly hilarious results. Was he gonna eat that cookie, er?
