via The Bagel Store, Instagram

Beige bagels are so boring and earthly. The time has come for your breakfast to go extra-terrestrial with Galaxy Bagels.

Brought to us by The Bagel Store in Brooklyn, New York — makers of the famous Rainbow Bagel — they’ve gone a bit higher in the stratosphere this time. The galactic bagels are available at 754 Metropolitan Ave. in Brooklyn, or order online at Rainbowbagel.com.

New Pork, The Last Foodnited State

image

When my son, Cameron, came to me with the idea for ‘States made out of food,’ it was his mention of ‘New Pork’ that got the ball rolling. So, although New York is the last State in our Foodnited States series, it was the first that had a name, and was the inspiration for the entire project.

New York is also my birth State and my wife’s and parent’s home State — so there are a lot of reasons why NY was saved for last.

We never imagined that producing these silly-named States made of food would be so well-received, and that it would be enjoyed by so many people. Thank you, everybody that’s been following this project.

But, do not fret, loyal Foodnited States fans… this is far from the end. The project will live on in various forms… including a complete Foodnited States map that you can hang on the wall of your choice, and each State available individually in various forms. Because, much like the actual United States, the Foodnited States is all about capitalism.

So, again… Thank you, thank you. Stay tuned for more Foodnited States news on Instagram, here at Foodiggity.com, and our other social media channels. F-S-A!! F-S-A!!

Hipster Dust, A Spice Blend For When You Need a Dash of Pretentiousness

hipster-dust

Something called Hipster Dust exists, and it’s as magically pretentious as it sounds. The ‘dust’ is a mixture of various spices “to flavor vegetables, soups, noodles and everything else.” So, let’s review its hipsterness, shall we? Created in Williamburg, Brooklyn — check. Vegan — obvs. Monochromatic minimalist packaging — done and done. Seems pretty legit.

Hipster Dust is available for $5 per 2oz. tin. Sprinkle some on your vegan brunch or random kale-based dish. Then wash it down with a PBR, or whatever you’ve been drinking since before it was cool.

Naked Lady Nutcrackers

Nutcrackers is an installation by New York-based artist Jennifer Rubell. The series consists of 18 nude mannequins that will gladly crack your nuts between their thighs. This is a bit uncomfortable for me to talk about, so let’s hear from the artist

…Nutcrackers consists of 18 life-size interactive sculptures of women surrounding a pedestal holding one ton of Texas pecans. Each prefabricated female mannequin is mounted on her side in an odalisque position and has been retooled to function as a nutcracker. Visitors interact with each sculpture by placing a pecan in the mannequin’s inner thigh, then pushing down the upper leg to crack open the nut so they may eat it in the gallery.
