Sure, you know your full and half moons… But can you easily spot a ‘waning gibbous’ or ‘waxing crescent?’ According to Moon Phases Explained With Oreo Cookies, the subtle differences are nothing more than how much cream you remove from the cookie, or something to do with the sun and earth.

Ice Cream Moons by Doshi Levien

That’s no moon. Nor is it a mere scoop of ice cream. It’s part of a series of ice cream cakes by designers Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien for Häagen-Dazs.

Inspired by Georges Méliès’ 1902 silent film Le Voyage dans la Lune, and Armenian surrealist Léon Tutundjian’s relief work of 1929 — the perfectly orbed ice cream is given craters and filled with layers of cake and other goodies.

UPDATE: A limited number of the Häagen-Dazs Ice Moon Cakes will be available in the UK starting October 24th. Details can be found at www.facebook.com/haagendazs.

Celestial Serving Bowls

If you’re serving freeze-dried pot roast and Tang again, or having a few space geeks over for dinner — create some table space with Celestial Serving Bowls. The durable melamine plates are made to look like the sun, earth and moon, and are also conveniently round.

At an enormous fourteen inches in diameter, they just might be large enough to develop their own gravitational pull. Available at ThinkGeek.
