Eastern European Cities Recreated With Food

July 21, 2014 by Chris Durso

1

The last project we covered by artist Anna Kevilla Joyce was for the birds. Now, the artist is back with another awesome series of food on plate.

Joyce created a series of Eastern European cities, using ingredients that capture the essence of the respective place. From Prague and Budapest to Warsaw and Bucharest… the series covers the under-appreciated beauty of the right side of Europe.

Food Art Created With Inedible Ingredients

June 25, 2014 by Chris Durso

Is it still food art, if the subject is completely inedible? That’s the question artist T.Q. Lee asks with Inedible, a photo series of food styling created from everyday and household items.

LEGO cereal, donuts made from socks, or a layer cake made from mud — Lee’s project challenges our perception of what makes us hungry, or grosses us out. The hot dog made from a rubber glove does a bit of both.

Experi-mental Kitchen, A Photo Series of Different Meals Merged Together Into One

May 12, 2014 by Chris Durso

Over the course of the day, you might have a burger, later a yummy donut, and then sneak a few gummy bears in before bed. And, even though these food items now co-exist in your gut — we never think of what they’d look like if represented as one. Until now.

Experi-mental Kitchen is a fun photo series by Jessica Neubauer and Anne Aselmann — who provide an actual visual of the things we eat over time.

Through pop art-inspired photography and wonderful food styling, the food combos, which have no business existing together, actually become somewhat appealing. At least they probably look better than that mound of today’s eats sitting in your belly.

“Experi-mental kitchen” is a pop artsy photo series that shows the funny contradictions we have in our minds about different flavours and how they should never be mingled together – although we do it all the time!

Bauhaus Food

May 23, 2013 by Chris Durso

For those not familiar with paintings from the Bauhaus, it’s simple… There were a lot of shapes. Actually, the entire art movement was about simplicity, producing paintings as well as architecture, sculpture, and furniture design that relied on the minimal.

Recently, Berlin-based photographers Nicky&Max took up the movement, creating a food photo series using Bauhaus as inspiration. Spoiler Alert: There’s a lot of food cut into simple shapes.

Photographer Films Food From The Inside to Create a Forbidden Underworld

December 17, 2012 by Chris Durso

Post Ocular, c-type print, 102x127cm, 2011

We’ve all seen our share of meticulous and hunger-inducing photos of food — whether on the internet or in magazines. But what if the world of food styling was literally turned inside-out, showing us an unexplored and darker side of food photography?

French photographer Nadege Meriau is doing just that. Filming produce and other various foodstuffs from the inside, Meriau creates a veritable underworld. In some cases, the works could even be described as resembling the ‘seventh circle of hell.’ Now, who’s hungry?
