McDonald’s Hamburger Straws Are A Thing Because Japan

July 25, 2017 by Chris Durso

Instagram @im_mmoe

Nobody can be sure why McDonald’s patrons in Japan are impaling their burgers onto their drinks with a straw. But they are, and it’s a new meme referred to as ‘drink x hamburger.’

Perhaps it’s to keep the burger in place while mobile. One-handed eating/drinking? Or maybe, just maybe, Japan likes when there are bits of burger floating around in their beverage. Either way, check it out and judge for yourself.

Drink The Force With Star Wars Lightsaber Straws

October 19, 2016 by Chris Durso

drink-the-force-2The force is strong in this cup. These beverage packaging concepts, by Peru-based art director Christian Rivera, shows LEGO versions of Jedis and Siths holding lightsabers.

What makes these seemingly ordinary soft drinks strong, is that the straws become an extension of the character’s weapons. Hopefully, we see these concepts in some capacity soon — so we can suck up some force.

Ghostbusters Ecto Cooler Is Back, Sorta

February 18, 2016 by Chris Durso

new-ecto-cooler

When it was announced that we’d be getting a reboot of the 80s classic, Ghostbusters, the clamoring for the re-release of a certain neon-green beverage were inevitable.

Now, it appears that our decades-long wait for the return of Ecto Cooler may soon be over, and lunchboxes nationwide will never be the same. In what appears to be a working production sample, we may be getting our first glimpse into what the new Ecto Cooler might look like. Hi-C logo, trademark, neon-green branding, forty-one grams of sugar… seems legit.

If you need to get familiar with Ecto Cooler before it’s unleashed again, check out Foodiggity’s attempt at a history lesson from 2010, Ecto Cooler: Its Shady Past and Mysterious Disappearance.

nICE Mug Kit Creates Usable Drinking Glasses Out Of Ice

January 8, 2015 by Chris Durso

nICE-Mug

Ever want an ice-cold drink, but a glass from the freezer just isn’t gonna to cut it? What if that drinking vessel was more than just hanging out in the fridge with ice, but actually was ice?

nICE Mug is here to make your cold beverage dreams come true. Invented accidentally by company founder Glenn Auerbach, the kit allows the drinker to make a serviceable drinking vessel completely out of ice.

Simply fill the nICE Mug mold with water, freeze, insert it into the holder, and your ice-cold beverage is ready to go. Their site claims that one nICE Mug will last a few drinks before it springs a leak. And, even if it does, it’s a great excuse to drink faster.

Cool Off With a Sprite Shower

July 24, 2012 by Chris Durso

To help promote their fizzy lemon/lime beverage, Sprite created a beach shower to look like a giant soda fountain. With help from Ogilvy Brasil, beachgoers in Rio were able to pretend they were disposable drinking cups and cool off.

Although it was merely water coming out — actual Sprite would’ve just gotten you all limony.
