Have you ever wondered how school children survived lunchtime, before there were juice boxes and Lunchables? Bon Appétit decided to subject a few youngsters to this horror, one decade at a time.
Kids Try 100 Years of Brown Bag Lunches is a short video, that shows us few things have changed about lunch at school over the past century. Kids sit, reach into a bag, and reveal what mom packed for them, one item at a time.
The only differences… radish sandwiches were once deemed edible, moms thought that wedge salads were a suitable replacement for sandwiches, and the 30s were kinda rough.
The overwhelming response from the kids, at least until the 70s, are mostly “eeew,” blank stares, and looks of soul-crushing disappointment. Please enjoy.
