The Deafening Buzz of Cicada Ice Cream

Sparky’s Homemade Ice Cream in Columbia, Missouri recently silenced a few cicadas by including them in a new ice cream flavor. The loud, swarming little buggers that show up every 13 years to annoy everyone, were gathered by store employees to be included in the limited edition Cicada Ice Cream.

Fully cooked, boiled, and then only partially de-winged for effect, the cicada ice cream debuted last week, only to sell out immediately. It was then shut down by the City of Columbia Health Department, as there are currently no regulations for the preparation of cicadas. No worries, as the main ingredient won’t be available for 13 years anyway.
