Food Faces Made From Restaurant Meals

May 15, 2014 by Chris Durso Leave a Comment

Pasture

You play with your food… It’s OK, you’re amongst friends. Noah Scalin also wants you to know that it’s going to be alright, and has created a series of food faces.

Commissioned by Broad Appetit — a food and art festival in Richmond, Virginia — Scalin was asked to visit eight local restaurants and create the faces with whatever he was served.

So use the series as inspiration for your next table art… We encourage making faces at the table.

You’re looking for a nice meal out, and you’ve heard really good things about the new place down the street. However, upon sitting down, you quickly realize that nice restaurant is owned, operated and occupied by hipsters. But, it’s too late to escape… You’ve already checked your coat and they’ve brought you water.

So, settle in and try to enjoy your evening. Simply follow How To Eat At A Hipster Restaurant by artist Nathan Pyle — which should help navigate your pretentious and adverb-laden evening.

The series was to be part of the ebook, NYC Basic Tips and Etiquette, which you can check out more of here.

Austin Restaurant Lil’ Buco Provides Fine Dining For Kids

November 22, 2013 by Chris Durso Leave a Comment

Problem… Your child, with their underdeveloped palate and all, is starting to show signs of being a bit of a food snob. Austin restaurant Lil’ Buco is here to help nurture their snobbery with a kids’ menu — but all refined-like.

No longer will your child be subjected to boring peanut butter and jelly placed between two slices of bread with the crusts cut off. And, your little foodie will never want a grilled cheese again, unless it’s in coin-form.

Just make sure your pretentious little eater saves room for the Sous Vide Pop-Tart with cereal-infused milk.

Check Please! A Collection Of Art On Guest Checks

September 18, 2013 by Chris Durso Leave a Comment

Guest Checks is an art series and website dedicated to illustration on restaurant guest checks. Now, like most things that are awesome, the series has become a book. Check Please! is an aggregation of these illustrations, combined into a 9″ by 9″ book that would improve upon any coffee table.

Illustrator and author of the book, John “Super Ugly” Williams, has started a Kickstarter campaign to help raise production costs. Great incentives are offered to those who participate, including guest check t-shirts and prints from the illustrators. Check out the project here, please.

A 45-Page Water Menu Exists at LA Restaurant

August 8, 2013 by Chris Durso 1 Comment

Water-02

You know that stuff that comes out of your faucet for free? Well, there’s now a restaurant that would like you to drive to their location, gaze upon a 45-page menu of nothing but water, and then non-ironically order a $16-bottle from a “water sommelier.”

The restaurant that you probably hate now is called, Ray’s and Stark Bar, and it’s unsurprisingly in L.A. However, the menu is kind enough to offer tasting notes, and uses a lot of fancy adverbs to describe each clear tasteless liquid.

Feeling thirsty yet? Scroll through the water menu below…
