Artist Kristin Tercek and her Cuddly Rigor Mortis project has been covered before here at Foodiggity. But since starting our new feature of Food Art Friday, it seemed appropriate that we revisit her work, as it is one of our favorites.
Inspired by her work with handmade plush dolls, artist Kristin Tercek paints anthropomorphic foodstuffs and other random objects. Best described by the artist herself, ‘Cuddly Rigor Mortis is bits of brutality smothered in a rich, creamy marshmallow sauce.’ It is that dichotomy Kristin relies on to create characters that range from cute and fuzzy, to horrifying and occasionally deceased.
With their lopsided ratio of head to body, and disproportionate and vulnerable doll eyes, the character’s unfortunate situations seem inevitable. And that is what makes Cuddly Rigor Mortis as endearing as it is creepy.

Kristin’s work will be on display at Meth & Hot Dogs 2 show at Lift Gallery, starting April 30. Most of her work is also available at her online shop.
