Further proving that online petitions and Facebook campaigns may have finally spun out of control, Bring Back The Mayor is urging internetters to help get Mayor McCheese back into McDonald’s advertising. Although apparently the burger-headed politician doesn’t have the nostalgic value that the creators of the campaign might have thought.
If nothing else, Facebook has proven that clicking a ‘Like’ button is fairly simple, and thousands of people will feign interest for the silliest campaigns. However at the time of this writing, Bring Back The Mayor has garnered only 243 ‘Likers’. Even a half-baked food culture site can get over 450 people to click a button… Thank You Likers.
Although mascots were once a mainstay of McDonald’s advertising, packaging and giveaways — the height of their popularity was back in the 70’s. Keep in mind that this was a decade where mimes had a primetime TV show, and marketing fast food directly to kids had yet to create the kind of shitstorm that it would today.
Yeah… creepy talking food will totally bring young customers to MCD.
If you ask me, we should bring the hamburglar back, that guy was cool.
And btw. lets get rid of that creepy clown.
