Carving Oreos and Sewing Toast by Judith G. Klausner

July 1, 2011 by Chris Durso

Judith G. Klausner, an artist based in Somerville MA, wants to remind us of the small and intricate things that we so often take for granted. Her newest project From Scratch, takes a unique approach to exploring the dichotomy of food production, and the inherent beauty of food ephemera.

By intertwining the processes of Victorian handicraft, with the resurgence of home cooking and embroidery, Judith transforms modern packaged foods into remarkable works of art.

Seen in her series of cameos made from Oreo cookies, and her intricate embroidery of cereal and toast, Judith ‘revels in the minutiae’ of everyday objects, hoping that the viewer will do the same.
