The Story of Bottled Water

March 26, 2010 by Chris Durso

A new animated short film by Annie Leonard tells the not-so-flattering story behind bottled water. The film carries an environmental message and discusses reasons behind our enchantment with the product — including what she calls ‘Manufactured Demand’. We are also urged to just say ‘no’ to the bottle and go back to the tap.

Although Foodiggity strongly supports the environmental message and the F.U. to corporate scare tactics, we cannot agree with the encouragement to go old-school and hit the tap. Unless there’s some serious filtering involved.

But then again, Foodiggity Headquarters is located in New Jersey. The tap water here has been known to peel paint, and tastes like a combination of entrails and pencil shavings.

Of course this film hasn’t gone over well with the bottled water people and they’ve responded in typical corporate douche fashion.
