The CMYK Cake Is Print-Friendly

October 11, 2017 by Chris Durso

If you’ve ever had to replace a printer’s ink cartridges, then you know that almost everything is printed using a combination or four colors — cyan, magenta, yellow and black.

What you may not realize is that most colors can be achieved with only C, M and Y — even black, according to students Arnold Bakshayev and Alona Massasa.

To reinforce this point, they’ve created CMY is The New Black — a print ad consisting of a CMYK cake that uses no black. Although some designers, this one included, would argue that a true black cannot be achieved with only three cartridges, the cake does look pretty awesome. Either way, you’ll still need to have black ink at all times, or your printer won’t work anyway.
