This Guy Collects, Documents, and Consumes Very Old Military Meals

Steven1989, of MREinfo.com, has a rather unusual hobby. You can even say that Steven is into antiques. Although, instead of furniture or creepy dolls, he collects and sells old military MREs, or “Meals Ready-to-Eat.”

Steven is also not one to simply browse and then hoard his finds, but rather documenting each MRE’s contents via YouTube video, chows down on each item, and attempts to give honest food reviews.

Expiration dates and intestines be damned, he’s created dozens of these videos, with “meals” that go back as far as the World Wars. Check out a few below, or pick up a few of your own at MREinfo.com.

Try Not To Get Lost In This Demented Cake Maze

photos: Think Tank Gallery and Break Bread LA

Rooms made from and filled with cake sounds wonderful. That is until we look a bit closer, and our cake fantasy quickly turns into a twisted fever dream.

Break Bread LA is a new art installation by Scott Hove, with rooms seemingly made from nothing but cake. Of course, the scenario of floor-to-ceiling frosting is not exactly what it seems.

Firstly, we cannot show up to the LA gallery with a fork, expecting to eat the exhibit… it’s made mostly from building materials, house paint and spackle. Secondly, throughout the rooms, items protrude from the cake walls — such as animal jaws, machine guns, and switchblades. Meant to add contrast to “that bougie cake look,” the items, according to Hove, “possess a real fierce quality that affects us on a very deep level.”

Break Bad LA also includes a watercolor gallery by Keith Magruder, aka Baker’s Son, and will run until March 13th at Think Tank Gallery in Los Angeles.

Ghostbusters Ecto Cooler Is Back, Sorta

new-ecto-cooler

When it was announced that we’d be getting a reboot of the 80s classic, Ghostbusters, the clamoring for the re-release of a certain neon-green beverage were inevitable.

Now, it appears that our decades-long wait for the return of Ecto Cooler may soon be over, and lunchboxes nationwide will never be the same. In what appears to be a working production sample, we may be getting our first glimpse into what the new Ecto Cooler might look like. Hi-C logo, trademark, neon-green branding, forty-one grams of sugar… seems legit.

If you need to get familiar with Ecto Cooler before it’s unleashed again, check out Foodiggity’s attempt at a history lesson from 2010, Ecto Cooler: Its Shady Past and Mysterious Disappearance.

Grind, Brew and Drink Coffee On-The-Go With The Cafflano Coffeemaker

cafflano-1

If you’re a coffee snob on-the-go — it’s OK, you’re amongst friends — then the Cafflano Coffeemaker should be in your cup holder.

The handy all-in-one coffeemaker will grind fresh beans, drip-brew, and then provide a tumbler cup for which to drink from. The only reason to step foot in another coffee shop, will be to laugh at the people standing in line… and perhaps to grab some sugar.

Check it out here.
