A Piney New World is a new painting series by John Jacobsmeyer. Whether wood is the main focus, the backdrop, or merely a theme—the series shows tremendous respect for the intricacies of wood and an obvious fascination with food and the kitchen.
Wood fetish aside, the series shows great Renaissance-like technique. Besides the figures-facing-front, food-on-table nod to The Last Supper—shown in I’ll Have What She’s Having—Jacobsmeyer shows an incredible command of linear perspective and foreshortening in the series.
A Piney New World also likes to get a little cryptic with the use of symbolism—revealing influence from Dutch painters such as Jan Van Eyck. Did we mention that there was wood?
