Skitchen, Fruits and Vegetables Skateboard and Kickflip Through The Kitchen

October 31, 2014 by Chris Durso

SKITCHEN-1

Skitchen, a food photography series by Paris-based artist and photographer Benoit Jammes, brings us into the secret sporting life of fruits and vegetables.

When no one is around to see it, various forms of produce nosegrind and kickflip through the kitchen. Whether it’s a banana grinding down a rolling pin, or a potato ollie — the produce appears to be having a good time, before they’re literally shredded and consumed.

Anatomical Illustrations Created With Fruits and Vegetables

August 7, 2014 by Chris Durso

For anyone looking for a new appreciation of the human form and produce… look no further than these works by illustrator Dan Cretu.

Taking inspiration from vintage anatomy illustrations, Cretu uses the texture and form of fruits and vegetables to create musculature.

The result may inspire the viewer to look at the human form a bit differently, or make you want a salad.

Inglorious Fruits and Vegetables, An Initiative That Encourages Sales of Ugly Produce

July 8, 2014 by Chris Durso

Poor fruits and vegetables… Why you so ugly?

It’s no secret that we shop with our eyes. And, because we can be so superficial, especially when it comes to produce, food waste has become a global issue.

Intermarché recently launched Inglorious Fruits and Vegetables to help change our perspective on unfortunate-looking produce, and hopefully cut down on food waste in the process.

First, a produce section was populated with the Grotesque Apple, Ridiculous Potato, Hideous Orange, Failed Lemon, Disfigured Eggplant, Ugly Carrot, and the Unfortunate Clementine at a discounted price. And, when that wasn’t enough to sway our flippant shoppers, a line of soups and juices made with these deformed foods were offered.

The result helped empty the shelves of these fruits and veggies, that may have been hard on the eyes, but will be nice to your belly and wallet. Hideous Orange Juice, anyone?

Veg of The Day, A Beautiful Papercraft Series of Fruits and Vegetables

May 29, 2014 by Chris Durso

Veg of the Day — an awesome papercraft series by artist Polly Lindsay — is certainly nice enough when viewing straight-on. However, it isn’t until we catch a side view, that we realize what makes this project special.

Using layers of paper to recreate the intricacies of actual produce, they’re then spaced apart and tiered. This technique helps add soft shadows and depth to the minimalist food items. Finally, vegetables are interesting.

Vegetable Ice Cream Exists

April 23, 2014 by Chris Durso

vege

Häagen-Dazs, known for their frozen treats of creamy goodness, will now be offering a series of healthier vegetable-based ice cream for some reason.

Spoon Vege is a series of ice creams that Häagen-Dazs will release in Japan, starting May 12. Marketed as vegetable-based and healthy, Spoon Vege will include flavors such as Tomato Cherry and Carrot Orange.

Not to split hairs, but a tomato is actually a fruit. Which leaves “Tomato Cherry” veggie-less. Nonetheless, it’s still healthier than the HD peanut butter swirl you’re usually shoveling in.
