BeetBox, The Vegetable-Powered Musical Instrument

When music appreciation and tech craft meets creative wordplay, we get things like the BeetBox. Created by Scott Garner, the root-vegetable-inspired musical instrument uses six beets powered by a Raspberry Pi with a capacitive touch sensor. When touched, each beet creates a distinct drum sound. And, when roasted, those same beats make a tasty side dish.

How To Make a Serving Bowl From a Vinyl Record

You probably have plenty of old vinyl records laying around. And, since you won’t be revisiting your ABBA albums any time soon, you might as well put the records to good use. YouTube user mururuoar shows us a fun and easy way to turn those old albums into a cool and durable serving bowl. Simply place that antiquated medium in the oven to soften it up, then place it over a pot or bowl to mold it into shape.

Then, you’ll just need to explain to younger guests how music actually once came out of that thing. And, why you ever listened to ABBA. For a matching set, and to confuse everyone even further, pick up a set of Record Coasters.

The Rolling Stones Have a Whisky Now

The Rolling Stones, of ‘the greatest rock and roll band ever’ fame, were formed fifty years ago this year. So, it only seems appropriate that the band should get their own booze — with Motörhead and Slayer already in the liquor business and all.

Rolling Stones 50th Anniversary Whisky is being released by Japanese liquor brand Suntory to help celebrate the milestone. The tongue logo-adorned bottle will be available in limited release (150 bottles) starting October 30th, and is a blend of malts distilled and casked during years that represent milestones throughout the band’s 50 year history.
