Power Up With A Giant Nintendo Bento Box

October 1, 2015 by Chris Durso

nintendo-bento

To help celebrate their upcoming New Year, Japanese department store, Takashimaya, is celebrating in the most appropriate way… By making ginormous Nintendo Bento Boxes.

The tradition of osechi ryouri (お節料理), specially-prepared bento boxes for the holiday, will come in three-tiers. While most of the food included will be Mario and friends-themed, some actually has deeper meaning. Such as shrimp, which is hunched over, representing the elderly.

Although, powering up on this feast will not come cheap, 27,000 yen (US$225), it is meant to enjoy with family over the course of a few days. And, it comes with a set of cards.

Grab your two-button controller, oversized cartridges, and enjoy these Nintendo NES Wine Labels. Brought to us by the folks at VinePair, the fictional wines are inspired by vintage Nintendo video games and labeled with old-school 8-bit awesomeness.

From Mario and Luigi Chianti Classico to Mike Tyson Punch Out!! Zinfandel, the wines will make you yearn for the days of blowing into cartridges, and for what once passed for video game graphics. At least you’re old enough to drink now.

Nintoaster, A Fully-Functional Nintendo Game Console Made From A Toaster

February 24, 2015 by Chris Durso

nintoaster

Because our memories of playing Super Mario Bros. and blowing into cartridges is so fond, the tributes to the Nintendo NES Game Console have been plentiful. Enter, The Nintoaster, a fully-functional NES made from a vintage toaster.

Brought to us by Finnish artist, Jarno Kotavuopio, the console turns on when the plunger is set down, and will play all of your favorites from childhood. Do not put toast in it though… No amount of blowing on the bread will make it toast.

power-mitt

Take control of your baking with the Nintendo Power Glove Oven Mitt. The Power Mitt is made to resemble the 80s-induced Nintendo game controller, The Power Glove. It might even inspire you to take a break from your all-day gaming and bake something.

Unfortunately, Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A will not help your brownies cook any faster. Check out the glove here.
