Retro Supermarket Filled With 31,000 Handmade Plushie Products

August 9, 2018 by Chris Durso

Lucy Sparrow is back and she’s gone bigger and retro. Sparrow Mart, probably the most ambitious felted project in history, is an 80s-style supermarket where all of the products are handmade from felt.

The items for sale range from Spam and Milk Duds, to laundry detergent and Tampax. The super-soft supermarket is open from August 1st-31st in the lobby of Standard Hotel in Downtown LA.

A Convenience Store Filled Entirely With Handmade Felt Products Opened In Manhattan

June 22, 2017 by Chris Durso

Imagine, in the middle of a city made mostly of concrete and steel, a convenience store is filled with the softest and cuddliest items available.

Artist, Lucy Sparrow, made this a reality with 8 ‘Til Late — a bodega filled with handmade felt products. Placed at The Standard, High Line in New York City, everyday products — such as cereal, condiments and Astroglide — are reimagined and stocked on shelves and in deli counters.

Due to overwhelming popularity, the store sold out of everything and closed ahead of schedule. The good news is that some of Lucy’s felt products are available for sale online.

Patrons of east London’s The Corner Shop looking for a snack or magazine might be a little disappointed. Unless they were looking for adorable hand-sewn replicas of these products, in which case, they’ll be pretty psyched.

Brought to us by artist Lucy Sparrow, the rescued convenience store is completely stocked with about 4000 fluffy items. Each product hand-sewn by Sparrow, including the cash register.

The Corner Shop is open for business until August 31st, with items also available online.
