This Artist Reinvents The Starbucks Mermaid On Each Of His Coffee Cups

September 28, 2017 by Chris Durso

What is it about the Starbucks coffee cup that inspires art? Is it the minimalist design? The unmistakable and perfectly-executed mermaid logo? Or, is it just the caffeine contained within that gets the creative juices flowing?

Either way, the cups have provided some of the best food art we’ve seen here. And, the work of South Korean artist, Soo Min Kim, is no exception. Using the Starbucks cup as canvas, Kim uses the mermaid as a starting point and rethinks the cup’s environment around her face.

The coffee mascot, by the hand of Kim, then becomes The Beatles, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man — or made to look as though she’s simply living amongst us humans. See more below and over at Instagram.

This Nickelodeon Illustrator Is Better At Drawing On Coffee Cups Than You

February 16, 2017 by Chris Durso

Sure, we all doodle on our coffee cups. However, unless you’re one of the coffee cup artists that we’ve featured previously, Ilana M Schwartz‘s coffee cup drawings are better than that garbage you put out.

In all fairness, Schwartz is an illustrator at Nickelodeon and, besides having mad talent, she gets first-hand inspiration from characters such as Spongebob Squarepants, Steven Universe and The Fairly Odd Parents.

See more below and over at Instagram.

Living inside ordinary coffee cups are these creative dioramas by Anastassia Elias.

Intricately carved out of the cup’s cardboard, the scenes are then back-lit to create mood and scale. See more below and over at Elias’ Facebook page here.

SPOILER ALERT: Caffeine is wonderful. It can be made even more so, when delivered in this awesome Star Wars packaging and drank through Darth Vader’s breathe-hole.

Dark Brew Coffee House is a coffee brand concept by designers Spencer Davis and Scott Schenone. The brand identity includes coffee cups with either a Darth Vader or Stormtrooper lid, complete with a modified quote from the movies.

They’ve also included potential coffee bean packaging and a coffee truck. Check it out below and here.

December 21, 2015 by Chris Durso

How’s your coffee cup doodle going? Probably not as well, or as engaging, as artist Shinrashinge‘s.

With a few throw-away coffee cups, anime illustrations, and strategic cut-outs — Shinrashinge plays out a short comic inspired by One-Punch Man. See the coffee drama unfold below.
