Raw Turkey Cake

January 3, 2013 by Chris Durso

Although turkey season has drawn to a close, there’s always room for cake. Especially when it’s something like the realistic version created by Sarah Hardy. Next year, consider carving up a few slices of the orange and rum spice cake. We’re sure it will be moister than your real bird.

Hipster Dust, A Spice Blend For When You Need a Dash of Pretentiousness

January 2, 2013 by Chris Durso

hipster-dust

Something called Hipster Dust exists, and it’s as magically pretentious as it sounds. The ‘dust’ is a mixture of various spices “to flavor vegetables, soups, noodles and everything else.” So, let’s review its hipsterness, shall we? Created in Williamburg, Brooklyn — check. Vegan — obvs. Monochromatic minimalist packaging — done and done. Seems pretty legit.

Hipster Dust is available for $5 per 2oz. tin. Sprinkle some on your vegan brunch or random kale-based dish. Then wash it down with a PBR, or whatever you’ve been drinking since before it was cool.

Atari 2600 Cake

January 2, 2013 by Chris Durso

The Atari 2600 Cake was created by New Jersey-based Pink Cake Box for a fortieth birthday party. The red velvet cake was complete with game console, two joysticks, and Pac-Man and Vanguard cassettes.

And, if you’re too young to know what a joystick is, then I won’t bother explaining how kids were once entertained by video games that required the use of one button. Or, how totally awesome Pitfall was. Awesome cake though.

Jewelry Made From Preserved Fruit

January 2, 2013 by Chris Durso

If you’re looking to make a statement with your jewelry, and that statement is, “I am fashionable, and enjoy fruit,” then Etsy shop Real Fruit Jewelry is here to help. The Philadelphia-based shop creates completely functional jewelry from actual preserved fruit.

Whether it’s a strawberry necklace, kiwi pendant, or even some tomato earrings — the fruits are expertly preserved and then sealed with a durable, hard, water-resistant glossy finish.
