Food Packaging Gets a Minimalist Makeover
As food manufacturers continue to compete for your attention and coupon use, their packaging has become increasingly obnoxious. Anyone who has wheeled down a cereal aisle lately can attest to the increasing amount of garish colors and the come-hither stares of cartoon spokesmen. We think their eyes might actually follow you too.
Design firm Antrepo experimented with the recent minimalist design trend to see what some packaging looks like when stripped of the mascots, extraneous colors, and superfluous graphics.

The Pig and The Potato: Sweet Potato and Pancetta Hash
Sweet potato… The fluorescent orange alternative to its equally boring white, or Yukon Gold brethren. When not trying to be like a regular potato — either getting mashed, or cut into french fry form — the sweet potato can be extraordinary, but needs some help. And as we’ve learned, nothing plays a better supporting role than a pork-flavored sidekick.
Casting bacon in this role would be a mistake — it would just hog the spotlight, and we’re merely trying to complement the sweet potato. Our pork co-star for this installment of Power to the People is bacon’s Italian cousin, pancetta.

Lovely, by Catherine Konopleva, uses delicious irony to call attention to cruelty to animals. Using actual pig parts to get the point across, the tagline of the piece reads, ‘One pig was hurt while making this lovely image of a pig’.
Creating a Universe with Cookie Dough and Sprinkles
Christoph Niemann of the NY Times’ Abstract City, is most recently the creator of his own tiny universe. In the beginning there was nothing but a ball of cookie dough. It is only when sprinkles are added do we see the universe and Niemann’s mad genius come together.
