Urban planters, when used correctly, can help inject some nature into a city street. But when unattended or not maintained, the planters only perpetuate the concept of urban neglect. Enter Outside the Planter Boxes — a Toronto-based initiative to help return some faux nature to the city’s streets.
Millennium Falcon Coffee Table
The Millennium Falcon Coffee Table is brought to us by the designers at R9. Officially titled the ’70’s Falcon’ to avoid the wrath of LucasFilms — the table is made from cold cast bronze with a retro wood grain veneer.
It also appears to be a one-off and is marked sold. Apologies to our coffee-drinking geek fans.

Celebrity Salt Portraits
Although probably unpopular at his local diner, Toronto-based artist Bashir Sultani creates beautiful celebrity portraits with simple table salt. His series Art with Salt can be found on Youtube, where we’re taken through the entire process.
Some of the celebrity portraits by Sultani include; Charlie Sheen, Eminem, and Gandhi. Although some missed opportunities include Salt, Julie Dawn Cole, and obscure Swedish grunge bands. Enjoy.
