Susan Jane Belton shows an amazing appreciation for disposable coffee cups in her painting series of the to-go vessels.
Like all good art, she manages to capture the small, fleeting moments. More specifically, the time it takes for the cup to run its course of usefulness and the urge for morning violence subsides.
Best explained by the artist herself:
In these drawings and paintings, I focus on the remains of that specific, automatic, mundane, contemporary activity. The process is a means of investigating these logo emblazoned, disposable, talismanic objects of our culture.
